Information on fostering for Cat Lovers Ballarat

Being a foster carer is extremely rewarding. As a private rescue that does not have a shelter location, we need foster carers for every cat we rescue. A home environment is extremely important to expose our cats and kittens to everything in ‘normal’ life such as voices, the TV, cars going past, dogs barking, the vacuum etc. This sets them up for the most success when they are ready for adoption.

As a foster carer, you will need to supply a safe, warm, and loving environment above all else. We ask that you provide food, litter, and bedding. We can assist with these things as required. Food will be provided as donations come in. We cover all costs for flea and worm treatments as well as all veterinary costs. All you need to do it get them to one of our vet locations in Ballarat and we will do the rest!

While in foster care it is important that you stay in touch with us about progress of your foster cats and let us know if you have any concerns. We will support to every step of the way.

Photos/ videos of your foster cats/kittens are extremely important. The photo on a cat’s adoption profile is the first thing potential adopters see. Clear, high-quality photos are best as well as videos that showcase their personality.

Isolation:

Keeping your foster cats and kittens isolated from your own pets for the first 1-2 weeks is suggested, especially if we do not know exactly where they have come from as there are potential illnesses such as ring worm and cat flu.

We can advise you on what to look out for if we think that this is a concern.
